What should I do if my pipe has burst?

Don't let a burst pipe break the bank, call our reliable plumbers for fast pipe repairs. In the meantime, follow these simple steps:

  • Switch off the water supply at the stopcock
  • Turn on all your cold taps, this will help drain the system
  • Turn off your central heating, immersion heaters and any other water heating systems you have.
  • Turn on the hot taps and allow the hot water to drain from your system.
  • Turn off the electrics
Where is the stopcock located in my property?

Most stopcocks are located under the kitchen sink, to turn it off you will need to rotate the knob clockwise. If you cannot find the stopcock under your kitchen sink you may want to check outside your home, all you are looking for is a metal plate with the letter ‘W’ or the word ‘water’.

How do I cut off the water supply?

To cut off your water supply you will need to locate the shut-off valve, usually, located in the basement, near the water meter or wherever the water supply enters your home. Turn the valve clockwise to cut off the water supply.

Is a small leak a big issue?

A small leak isn’t a big issue, right? Unfortunately, this isn’t the case, fixing small issues such as a running toilet or a dripping faucet can save 10% per annum on your water bill.

Aside from the potential cost, small leaks can also lead to other long-term damage such as damp, mould or even contaminated water. We recommend that however small you may think your plumbing issues are you call an expert to fix them for you.

How hot should my hot water be?

Your hot water should be around 60-65 degrees as this is hot enough to ward off any bacteria however, is not hot enough to cause serious damage if scalded.

Why are some of my radiators hotter than others?

This could be due to a few reasons. Your radiator may need balancing or may need bleeding to release the trapped air out of the valve. If bleeding your radiator doesn’t resolve the issue then you may want to call out one of our engineers to take a closer look.
