However, before you consider buying a new oven, there are a few things you can do to fix it on your own.
5 ways to fix your faulty oven
Ovens usually consist of a thermostat that is traditional in its function. A thermostat is a device that controls the temperature of the oven. An oven might overheat if there is a fault in the thermostat. However, there are other possible reasons as well, which are burning your dreams.
1. Faulty Thermostat Knob
The knob allows you to set the temperature of the oven. This knob is attached through a wire to the thermostat. In some cases, the knob might develop a fault and it can cause the wrong temperature to be set; in this case, a higher temperature. You can remove the knob and check it for any dirt and debris. Also, inspect whether it is connected securely to the thermostat. In rare circumstances, it might need recalibration.
2. Loose Sensing Bulb
A sensing bulb is located within the thermostat and is responsible for temperature sensing. The part of the thermostat containing the bulb itself is situated at the rear or on the left side of the oven. You will need to check the bulb whether it has become loose or damaged. If it is loose, reattach it back to its holder. If the bulb is damaged, it will need replacement.
3. A Faulty Thermostat
You can determine if the thermostat is at fault or not. Take an oven thermometer and place it inside the oven. If the temperature reading is greater than the set level, the thermostat might need replacement. Additionally, food particles and grime may have accumulated in the thermostat, causing it to malfunction. You can remove and clean it to solve the overheating problem quickly.
4. Blocked Oven Vents
The vents located at the back of the oven allow the heat to dissipate evenly. If these vents are blocked by dirt, grime and debris, it will cause the oven to overheat. Use a vacuum cleaner to clean the vents and you should do so on a periodic basis.
5. Control Panel Glitch
Modern ovens have an electronic control panel to control the temperature setting that is susceptible to voltage fluctuations. In some instances, the sudden loss of power can cause the panel to develop a small glitch, which may result in an incorrect temperature setting. You should unplug the oven and reset the circuit breaker; wait a few minutes before turning on the oven.
