5 steps to re-set your Hotpoint fridge freezer

A simple guide

Our fridges help us keep food on the table and feed ourselves and our family, so when you discover it’s not quite cold enough, or find a big build-up of ice – it may be time to re-set your Hotpoint appliance.

Our experts have noticed this is a widely requested topic; therefore, we're here to help guide you step by step through this process. Read on to find out how to reset your Hotpoint fridge.

Step 1: Turn the control knobs off

Make sure all your Hotpoint knobs are turned to 0 or the lowest possible setting – some of these knobs are located inside the fridge or freezer, and other models have them placed just above the freezer door.

Step 2: Unplug the fridge freezer

Turn the mains socket that your appliance is plugged into off at the wall, and then unplug it.

Step 3: Make sure that your power light is off

This is purely for safety reasons to ensure you have correctly turned your appliance off. Make sure your power indicator light isn't blinking, this will successfully prove you have shut down your refrigerator – this light should be positioned next to your control knobs either above the freezer or inside the appliance.

Step 4: Wait 15 minutes before plugging it back in

This step always seems to be the one to catch people out according to our experts! Patience is a virtue, not only does it give your fridge-freezer time to properly power down but plugging in your refrigerator too soon after you have unplugged it can cause damage to the compressor, which is the brain behind cooling your fridge. Give the compressor the time it needs to stop running by waiting 15 minutes before you boot the fridge freezer back up.

Don’t be alarmed, 15 minutes won’t affect the temperature or the integrity of the food in your fridge and freezer – as long as the doors are firmly shut!

Seems simple right? Well in many ways it is – but we appreciate that with large appliances that you rely heavily upon, knowing how to carry out a simple re-set properly without damaging the appliance or you is integral.
