Has your cooker igniter stopped working? Our experts have all the answers for why your cooker igniter may not be working.

The cooker in your home is the source of happiness for all; why you ask? Well, haven’t you heard that food is the ultimate intimate experience? Good food has the ability to forge friendships, create everlasting memories, and strengthen ties with kin. But what if your cooker stops working and you cannot cook that beautiful dish you promised you would?

Cooker not heating

It will not only put you under a bad spotlight but can harm your relationships as well. Don’t panic though, there is a workaround because most of the time, the igniter of your oven is the culprit to blame. The igniter is the part that ignites the gas and produces a flame. Forget about that cooker insurance for the time being!

The igniter may not work for a number of reasons. Let’s take a look at them.

Examine the Igniter

Most of the time, the igniter stops working if it is dirty. Hence, remove the igniter and using a soft toothbrush, clear away any debris, dirt, and muck from it. Remember to scrub the surface of the igniter gently. When you are finished, blow on it lightly. The igniter is situated near the burner.

You can check the igniter if it works or not; switch off the gas supply, press the igniter button, and a ‘click’ sound should be heard. In some cases, you can see a spark as well. If you see or hear none of that, the igniter has developed a fault and will need replacement.

Inspect the Gas Supply

Sometimes the igniter might not work because the gas supply is inadequate. Therefore, you should take a look at the gas supply pipeline and ensure there’s no leak. If there’s a leak, you will be able to smell the gas too. If all is fine, check the gas valve. Make sure it is fully open. You can also examine the gas tank of your cooker to ensure that the levels of gas are sufficient.

Check the Burners

The burner is located in close proximity to the igniter. Before inspecting them, turn off the dials and switch off the gas supply. Then lift the cooker’s top lid which you can easily do so as it is hinged. A lot of grime, food particles, grease, and debris accumulate on the burner with use, so it’s crucial to clean in order to get the igniter to work.

The burners can be cleared of all the debris, grime, and muck with a linen-free, soft damp cloth. Furthermore, you should clean the area between the burner and the igniter using a needle and a magnifying glass. Also don’t forget to clean the holes, tubes, and valves of the burner vinegar-soaked cloth.

Most of these tasks are quite sensitive and you have to be careful while doing so. After cleaning the burners, switch on the gas supply and try operating the igniter again.
